In the coastal area of Coyuca de Benítez, Guerrero, a boutique hotel faced significant risks due to beach erosion and recurrent flooding during the rainy season. In addition, the impact of tropical storms threatened the stability of its facilities and the local ecosystem.

Initial diagnosis:
The analysis identified that the loss of natural dunes and mangrove deforestation exacerbated the hotel's vulnerability to climatic phenomena. The lack of natural barriers allowed storm surges to reach the facilities directly, causing significant damage during storms.
Solutions implemented :
1. Creation of artificial dunes: Sand dunes were designed and built along the beach in front of the hotel. These natural structures helped absorb wave energy and minimize coastal erosion.
2. Mangrove Reforestation: Green, red and black mangrove species were planted in the areas surrounding the hotel. Mangroves not only provide a natural barrier against storm surges, but also improve water quality, stabilize soil and provide habitats for local wildlife.
3. Participatory management: The project included collaboration with the local community, training residents in reforestation techniques and dune monitoring, which fostered a sense of belonging and care for the ecosystem.
Results:
Thanks to these actions, the hotel reduced the impacts of storms on its infrastructure by 50% during the first year. The dunes acted as a natural buffer, while the mangroves began to stabilize the coastal soil and revitalized the marine ecosystem of the area. Additionally, the project attracted the attention of tourists interested in sustainable practices, which increased occupancy by 20%.
